I doubt anyone under 50 remembers Bert the Turtle. For those unfamiliar, let’s just say Bert was the leading character of one of the more infamous civil defense films, made to be viewed primarily in grade schools, of the 1950s and early 1960s.
The movie “The Atomic Cafe” features a lot of the old propaganda films. (Ducking and covering, of course, would’ve EXACTLY as useful in a nuclear attack as standing and delivering!)
If I were pitching against the Braves – especially against Evan Gattis, Dan Uggla, and Juan Francisco – I would want to throw from second base. Justin Upton, Freddy Freeman, and Brian McCann hit it pretty hard, too.

I remember Bert the turtle from my childhood. We practiced duck and cover in my elementary school. We practiced it quite often in October 1962.
