This cartoon is kind of a good analogy to explain data transfer to children. The people are like electrons. Even Einstein found it necessary to think in analogies. Douglas Hofstadter says that analogies are the core of cognition..Anyway ….In our nearest big city, there is still a pneumatic tube delivery system among the older buildings. It’s really cool, as I saw it demonstrated. The closest thing I see to it in everyday use is at bank drive-ins. Eventually there will be magnetic tube transport of people and other cargo when super-conductors can be made to work at higher temperatures.
How true this is. Execs usually aren’t too tech savvy. That’s why it’s so easy for those of us who are to arrange for things to “get lost in the system” or cause “random computer errors” that could lead a lot of really bad places. Or, if you’re a fan of Brickleberry, what Malloy did to Woody in the episode “Two Weeks Notice.”
You’d be surprised, Gaunt. I managed to shock a former boss by telling him that he could have more than one e-mail address. He thought his office one was the only one he could have, ever.
A lot of physicians’ offices (esp. the older ones’ offices) get all flustered if you suggest that they could communicate with patients via the Internet.
This brings back memories as a child when I use to go visit my Grandma in the Bronx .The back of all buildings faced each other and there was a clothes line connecting one building to another called a clothes line. Grandma use to hand her clothes out there.
One slip and it’s all downhill ..better yet falling never hurt anyone….it’s the sudden stop at the end that gets you!…..fear of heights? No not at all GET ME OUTTA HERE!!

I would have actually liked that system when I was a foot courier.

There was a time when bike couriers were literally the fastest way to transfer data in the Bay Area (automobiles got into traffic jams too often)

This is so 1970’s. And is it really easier to understand what happens when you put that floppy disk into the computer?
