bad day trips lurid caverns - embarrassing stalagmite formations & tour guides who keep nudging you. avoid especially the "grotto of glands." geek's neck varmint refuge - just what it says; varmints, mostly un-desirable alien species. and all they do is molt, smell & eat each other. big pile state park - formerly amazing rock state park until the accident. the park ranger on duty seems depressed & withdrawn. cretin's run national battlefield - site of the civil war's least decisive battle. a magnet for irate reenactors who spit almost too authentically.

Big Pile is in New Hampshire, where the Face in the Rock had been.

Lost Almost Everything Observatory: A breath taking view of formerly pristine desert now an urban sprawl of housing and commercial development. Marvel at the smog, mediocre architecture and unmaintained roads. Only 362 miles to El Paso, TX!

Been there, done that, I think. Then there’s the long trip to the big, important, once-in-a-lifetime overseas museum that is “Closed Today.”

The Battle of Cretin’s Run was the least decisive because it was won by neither the North nor the South, but by the East. The Blues were shooting at the Greys, and the Greys were shooting at the Blues, but neither side knew if they should be shooting at the Blue-Greys, who were shooting at everybody.
Fortunately, the East sat out the rest of the war so as not to ruin their perfect record.

My worst day trip was to Paris, in the middle of a two-week stay in London. After about four hours, I just went back to the Chunnel station to see if I could trade in my ticket for an earlier train.
My best day trip was to Stratford-On-Avon, a few days before.
