Just hold down control/alt/shift/tab/windows/backspace/F5/help/q right before you order a new PC.

I have to use both Windows and Mac for work. I have a strong preference for Mac (in all regards except cost).

Mac at work, Windows 7 at home: I prefer the Windows, myself. Switching back and forth is awful, though: I disabled the Windows key at home because my reflexive use of it as the Mac command key. Windows 7 I like: Win 8, however, sucks big-time on the desktop.

I’ll say one thing for Microsoft — at least they support their older versions of Windows longer than Apple does. I have a 5-year-old Mac and Apple no longer supports the OS 10.5 “Leopard” that came with it. Microsoft still supports XP — a 12-year-old operating system — enough to provide security updates.

I put an emulator on and a mouse for the laptop with win 8, now it is usable. MS just announce that they will provide in the fall an updated version of 8 for PC’s without the touch screen. Of course they didn’t say if it will be free or not.

“I recommend a complete system defenestration.”

    “How do you do that?”

“Carefully unplug the system from the outlets and gently loft through any convenient window.”

Win7, Win8—what’s it get me? I do Email, I surf webpages, I get movies from HULU and a few other sites…I can get all that using Xp, and even when MS Xp goes away I’ll still get the Security Updates. I’d stick with Win98, but I wanted FIOS.; I still keep 98 around for the music software I have on DOS and for the Games port for my keyboard. If I could get a reliable USB port add-on I’d still use my Win95. I even use my 486 occasionally for some applications. So how’s my life going to improve with Win7/8?
