Frazz: Mrs. Olsen saved Gabriela from a distracted driver? Caulfield: True story. Miss Plainwell: I'm trying to picture Mrs. Olsen as a superhero. Caulfield: I'm trying not to picture her in spandex.
Beautiful! Go Big O! “True story.” And we all know that truth is stranger than fiction. This isn’t the first time Mrs. Olsen has made a personal sacrifice for her students. Doesn’t anyone else remember the Christmas series “A Mall and the Right Visitor”? I think it ran in 2010. Mrs. O worked as a mall Santa to earn money to take a trip to Vegas, but ended up giving it to a student so she could visit her father. (I think.) It was a series that stretched over a few weeks, and was written all in rhyme. Really very well done. I’ve tried to find it, to no avail. All I could find is this two strip excerpt, about half way down the page, here.
Fabulous, even when Ms. Olsen does something awesome and selfless, all they can do is crack jokes about her weight. Way to be a great example for Caulfield, Frazz.

The mask in the shape of her eyeglasses is pretty good, too.

uh-oh, pessimistic view: I now see Gabriela’s parents suing Capt. O for breaking there dears lil wrist.

You know, it just occurred to me – every superhero needs a theme song. Frazz…? Maybe sung by her students? Teachers as unsung heroes, no more!

She doesn’t look any worse in spandex than a lot of the Real Life Superheroes who actually exist and insist on wearing it in public.

The “Olsen/Santa” strip run was the 2003 NEA holiday comics special but it does not appear to be online anymore.

@aiquale Must say I agree. Usually, Caulfield’s commentary is funny to me, but this – not so much.

This time, Jef could’ve stopped after the second panel and it would have been just fine.

Stands to reason that the Norse who produced the vikings, also produced strong-minded women and strong coffee.
