Earl, if you made her violate her conscience, you just might be there helping pick the stitches out! But the NT has more to say about grace and forgiveness …
I remember in the days before supermarkets (honest, kids!) in Sacramento, you couldn’t buy meat on Sunday. No idea what that was about. That was when meat was wrapped in pink paper by the butcher, after he weighed it out for you. I swear, it tasted better back then.
Blue Laws were because Sundays were suppose to be a day of rest. Only food and other essentials could be sold. Anything considered work related including housework could not be bought.

Opals mother should have told her " A stitch in time, saves nine "

Dunno about the theology of the whole thing, but I’ll bet it sure gave Opal’s mom a day off from her least favorite job….

Sewing was considered work. You did not work on Sunday. Unless your ox fell into a pit on Sunday, then you were to get him out immediately.

This strip always keeps me in stitches. And I’ve always sewn that its commentators were a tight knit group.

Opal needs a day off, she works very hard keeping the house so clean.
