Taking a girl for a ride can have a lascivious meaning…

Must be one of those fancy foreign cars. You don’t need a key for the ignition to turn it on or off.

He turned off the ignition switch. It says ignition right there. For the young people that was the first thing you did like turning on the key. Then you either pushed a button to start or some had the starting button on the floor you stepped on. Remember this is an old drawing . They did not need keys as very few people would steal never lock our homes either. Those were the good old days. All so did not have nasty mind in he gutter remarks like some of you have made.

I had a 1960 Porsche 356 that had a gas valve under the dash with three positions: AUF (on), TZU (off) and RES (presumably reserve, I never tested it). The early VW Beetles had a similar valve but had no gas gauge. You just drove until the car ran out of gas then switched to RES.

Just realized that Jeff must have been attracted to her because her hair color matched his car.

From her dress, bag and hairstyle – I would guess this to be in the 40s. Possible during the war years – if Jeff thought she would believe the story about running out of gas and she would have brought a gas can along as insurance.
