Todays strip hits home for me. I work in a small engine repair shop. People will go to the big box stores and get a hundred dollar throw-a-way push mower. They will then try and use it to cut every thing but grass. They will then bring it to us, sometimes in multiple pieces. That is when they get mad when we tell them that it is going to cost more to fix it than they paid for it in the first place.
Oh, what is worse is the hand-held stuff. They get a blower or string trimmer for $59.99 and after the 90 day warranty goes out so does does the ignition coil and they flip when they learn that OUR (whole sale) cost on the coil is more than they paid for the blower or trimmer in the first place. As for buying the cheap mower a lot of the people I see that do that around here are driving $50,000 cars, living in million dollar homes with horse barns (with $100,000 horses) nicer than most people’s houses. As for the oil change bit we have one of those for the mowers without drain plugs.……………………………………………………………………..http://www.hernshipstore.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/PEL-PL-650_med.jpg
Bought a cheap 42" one, Threw away the engine after first year. Replaced with Briggs& Stratton engine and a new sharp blade. Did that 5 years ago. I live in Oregon, and have a full acre to mow.

One of my life goals is to never own a lawnmower. Successful so far.

They just don’t make things like they used to, when they were made in the good old USA!
