Stellaluna really pouring it on to Diet……Tracy looking classic……Gould-style info box to tell us it’s a wrist wizard…..(I was going to ask if we were going to see more of that kind of thing)……..ain’t it great?!
I got this bad feeling that the car Mysta is tryingto start up is rigged with a bomb and that this Moon Maid is going to go just as the Moon Maid of before did. I’m not liking this.
Great Tracy look in panel 1, and he’s taking command of the situation! Sam in panel 2 is doing the right thing by calling for backup (something I criticized him for not doing, some story-arcs back). Clone-Moon Maid got to the parking lot awfully quickly, and safely; but who’s going to drive that car and whither and why, since Retik and Stellaluna, not to mention Diet, have been ordered to stay put in the office?
I’m thinking it’s going to be a Mysta vs. Bardoll showdown? “Where ya think you’re goin’ little lady?” Gotta agree with blunebottle, it’s pretty great.
I can’t get over how great this comic has become since Curtis and Staton took over. It ranks right up there as one of the best. And this story arc is their best one yet.
As the smoke from Diet’s smoldering cigar wafts toward the Space Coupe model, the eye moves from Tracy to Sam to Mysta. Wonderful art and story progression. Applause, applause.
Jelfring: Don’t worry. My response to tsull2121 was largely tongue-in-cheek, as I hope his yesterday post was.
tsull2121 speculated once again that Mysta is about to die, and I was saying, okay, but if so, why not Sparkle, too.
Historically, Junior has had lots of problem with the women in his life. Disturbing to some people is that this story line potentially gives him two women to deal with – both of whom are his wives!
Staton’s art is teriffic! The layout has the whole strip flowing and building tension, with a classic portrait of Tracy, Gouldian shilouettes, and even an info box!And did I mention, I love the story, too?
Poor Junior! The kid can’t win for losing. I’d hate to be in that kind of triangle, and I hear it is more common than you’d think. Remember Cast Away with Tom Hanks?
Night-Gaunt49: Well, technically, it ain’t murder until Sparkle dies.
While I still want this to be the real Mysta, she’s still not firing on all cylinders. Many things she’s done are bad judgment.
On the other hand, what do you want for someone who survived an explosion that no human could possibly have survived, probably had a healthy dose of amnesia but, most importantly, was held prisoner by people she may consider friends.
The artwork is excellent, as several other people have mentioned. This is the second recent strip with a “Gould-style info box.” There was one as Junior drove up to see Mysta with Honeymoon.
I’m going to be very upset if Mysta suddenly blows up, but I can’t see that happening, certainly not at this point, anyway. She may be taking one the cars they came in. That would simplify things, as regards auto theft. She’s only doing it in self-defence.
I can see her getting away at this point and driving off to points unknown. The story will then shift away from her for now, just as it has shifted away from Sparkle Plenty in recent days. We need to get back to what happened to Sparkle and to whatever is happening in the Moon Suite.
I notice that Retik is the only character who doesn’t appear in any of the panels today. It’s quite possible that he just didn’t fit because there are a lot of characters to fit in, but he actually may have fled, considering the panic he was in when we last saw him.
Rather late in the day; don’t know if anyone will read this, but coldsooner and morrow: Please note that plural marriage is not just against state law, it’s in the Utah state constitution! And while polygamist scofflaws exist in Utah and many other states, the LDS church has a zero tolerance policy regarding the practice. Members of the church will be expelled if they enter into, or are even sympathetic to groups that practice plural marriage.
No, I’m fairly certain that Mysta is not going to blow up, at least not now. I feel like it’s too soon for her to die. If she does die, it will have to be later, not now. We will see how things develop. I feel like we are just getting into the main part of the story.
I do think that the guard may be dead, but it’s also possible that Bardoll was killed by the guard. We should know by Sunday.

tsull2121: What you proposed yesterday is an interesting end to the Mysta saga – and, oddly enough, I think it might be a good one, at that!
But only with the death of Sparkle in her fertilizer bomb truck, as well!
This way, Mysta can be whatever her beholders want her to be – martyr or murderer.
And, we can continue with Chester Gould’s portrayal of Junior as a man who has no luck with women!

The death of Sparkle would not be a good ending in my mind.

Diet’s cigar smoke curling around the Space Coupe and the bearded “doctors” in silhouette. So awesome.

What a great story! I hope MM/Mysta and/or Sparkle do not die. Hoping for a happy finale.

Due to the scarring on Mysta’s antenna and there is no REAL cloning, I think this is the REAL MM, somehow saved from the explosion.

Blog post on the manga “Ayako” by Osamu Tezuka, with a look at Inspector Geta, who seems to be heavily inspired by Dick Tracy.
