Woman: Let's go on a cruise this year. Man: Got a better idea. Let's stay home and let the toilet overflow and catch a nasty abdominal bacteria right here where it's free.
Sure it’s free, but do you get a balcony on your staycation? Hmmm? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
The real problem, I think, is that cruises are really for people who don’t know how to amuse themselves. A cruise gives you the chance to eat too much, drink too much, gamble too much and spend too much time in the sun-all within a convenient walk from your cabin.
Well, I have a large balcony that gets lots of sun (I actually do most of my cooking in a solar cooker there), and a small garden with a garden swing, I usually tend to eat too much, especially cheese. I don’t drink alcohol since it makes me itch and gives me a headache, but I suppose I could make some lemonade. I have been around long enough to know better than to spend too much time in the sun. Speaking of which, it’s late enough in the afternoon now for my garden swing to be in the shade. Bye.
I went on a cruise back in the 90’s with my sisters. It was a blast and I enjoyed it very much. With all the problems the ships have suffered (sickness and fires) I’m not planning on going again. I think the industry got too big for its moorings.
The cruise industry has been hit hard by the bad economy, but to its credit has managed to maintain an excellent level of service overall. Sure, there have been a few incidents lately, but other than the idiot captain who ran his ship onto the rocks in Italy, nobody has been killed. During this time, there have been bus crashes, train crashes and plane crashes, all with loss of lives and numerous injuries, not to mention the mad men blowing up or shooting up places of sports, entertainment and learning, I have been on six cruises over the past few years and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I have visited places and seen things that I would otherwise have missed. I have met some wonderful people and made some ongoing friendships. I have never been sea sick. There is no more need to eat too much, drink too much, gamble too much or spend too much time in the sun than there is on any other form of vacation, and most people on cruises are far more active than when they are vegetating at home in front of the TV or computer.

I’ve been on four cruises and never got sick – not even sea sick. Though to be honest, one of them was a river cruise.
