Linus is referring to Galatians 6:11 (KJV) “Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.” (Had to go to lds.org/scriptures to find it.)

I always thought Paul was referring to the length of the letter, not the size of the actual letters, but the latter does make sense. There is a place where he says they would’ve given him their own eyes, which has led to people through the years believing he may have had bad eyesight. I think that’s very possible since they didn’t have glasses back in his day. If I didn’t have glasses I couldn’t read at all which would be torture to me.

This comic strip is a prime example of how refreshingly original Schulz’s thinking was; he was miles ahead of almost every one of his fellow cartoonists, who typically availed themselves of gags and ideas that were mundanely conventional and pretty much all alike. Oh, how I wish that fresh Peanuts strips were still appearing in the papers today!

Makes me wonder if Schulz had the basic idea for a strip and then added the verse or if he had the verse in mind and then wrote the strip around it.

If it was obvious there wouldn’t be a debate.
