I used to make my own blackpowder rockets as a kid. Most did nothing. Some fizzled on the launch pad and a more than comfortable amount simply blew up. There were actually one or two that flew somewhat successfully.
They were “launched” (if you can call it that) from a concrete bunker and aimed over a body of water.
My lack of success with solid propellant rockets deterred me from trying my hand at liquid propellant versions. Besides liquid oxygen was tough to come by in my neighborhood.
It didn’t matter Von Braun had the jump on me getting to the moon anyway.
Brings back memories of some big time failures in high school, and then on to the real world of large rockets that also failed at times thanks to the US Army!
