    reocares - if you were asking me, I’m afraid I wan’t joking… I was 14 at the time and microwaves had only been out for a couple of years. I’d heard that eggs could explode if you microwaved them, so I got the bright idea that if I put them inside a quart jar of water, the water would abosrb the explosion if it occured. Unfortunately, all the jar did was shape the explosion so the enitre force was focused straight up and cracked the fan housing in the top of the microwave…

    The older ones had the mechanical timers. Ever have one get stuck while cooking popcorn? I realized I didn’t hear the “ding” (after 20 minutes). I’ve learned:

    Never leave kitchen appliances unattended. The burned popcorn smell is permanent.

    The bag was black and smoking.
