    I know it ruins the pun, but I have to point out that petroleum is not oil – it’s a refined version of it – and it doesn’t come out of the ground as-is!

    Everyone knows tha the best petrol comes from tree roots, sea weed, sugar cane, corn etc. and may be good for you as well as your auto.

    If only! In California, I believe the civic entities retain the mineral rights, so if one finds oil on one’s property, one does not get to profit from it. Though there may be something about companies paying for the rights to drill under your property—it’s all very confusing, and designed not to benefit the regular old homeowner.
