    What’s always interesting about these Flying Ace strips is that Snoopy could easily imagine himself shooting down the Red Baron. But he doesn’t. The adventure is in trying, not succeeding.

    In WW I ballons were considered expendable, but aircraft were not. Ballon pilots were given parachutes. Fixed wing pilots were not. Incentive to bring the plane back in one piece.
