    A GARDEN fork actually would work better than that trowel for digging up potatoes.

    Grandpa would just lay the chunks on the ground and cover them with straw. Much easier to harvest, although one year the straw contained some oat seeds, which sprouted up. We kidded him about sowing his wild oats.

    You need a full sized shovel. Dad actually uses a pitch fork.
