Not sure I’d believe that Jason would have seen Charlton give that line.

“I can’t go with Paige, her ape costume is better than mine!”

If anyone remembers that line, you have my deepest sympathy.

Would’ve been nice to see Calvin do that with snow; Bill Watterson made him quite an artiste.

Rent the original “Planet of the Apes”. This is a reenactment of the last scene.

Anyway that was a really effective image—-the unmistakeable icon of New York in the wilderness. But of course, as with most really effective images it was completely wrong. What it showed us was just about impossible. I don’t know how much you know about the structure of the Statue of Liberty or, for that matter, about the chronology of the Planet of the Apes but let me assure you that the one is a flimsy shell over a hollow framework and the other is about two thousand years and I’ll leave you to guess which one is which. The upshot of this is that the chances of Charlton Heston seeing Lady Liberty after all that time are probably even less than the chances of him noticing that whatever the NRA says it is a hell of a sight easier to kill someone with a gun than without!

It’s an old movie, but a classic. I’m surprised kids today would even watch it, though.

I actually laughed out loud when I read this strip. I saw the movie + most of the sequels when they originally ran … recently bought a DVD of it for $5 and made the kids watch this “classic.”

Charlton Heston was just being Charlton Heston – he just had his way of doing things that I personally liked.

    Nice tribute to PotA!

Dear Mr. Jim, your language is redundant – you do not need both “liberal” and “jerk.”

Mr. Jim, don’t be a jerk. It was just a comment. Relax, no one is trying to start a fight with you. Put the gun down.

The Charlton Heston triumvirate of films about bleak futures were all quite good. I think “Planet of the Apes” is the least believable, “Omega Man” the most exciting, and “Soylent Green” the most chilling. All three (and even “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”, which Heston appeared in) have images of upraised arms at the end.

Bill ignore the political rhetoric! This strip today was a HOOT! (And anyone who doesn’t get the joke, has to be a real young’in! Which makes the rest of us “old farts” I guess!)

For anyone wondering, Jason is referencing the original Planet of the Apes by acting out the last scene.

Just as a random wondering, though, would Jason, much less Paige, be familiar with the original Planet of the Apes? Paige is likely to dismiss ANY science fiction as only for geeks, while Jason is more likely to be into the all-flash-and-no-substance remake.
