Don’t do that—take it from me, women are ‘experts’ when it comes to diamonds—they can tell if one is not real just as soon as the box is opened ! That’s when ‘hell’ begins, not after you die !
There are two working and efficient processes for real (as in same atoms and structure as natural diamonds) synthetic diamonds.
The Russian process compresses and heats a lump of carbon at the center of a spherical hydraulic press. The resulting diamonds have a yellowish tinge from contamination with the hydraulic fluid.
The American process puts a tiny diamond in a vacuum chamber, and vaporizes carbon in the chamber with an electric arc. The seed diamond grows rapidly as the carbon vapor deposits onto it. The resulting large diamond is clear.
Commercial implementation of both processes met with violent (literally) opposition from the diamond mining industry, and the resulting security costs wiped out the price advantage.
On the artificial diamond subject, if you really want something closer than cubic zirconium check out GGG. It’s even better than YAG for replacing a diamond. It costs a little more but it’s worth it.
