A momma raccoon and her half-grown cubs were raiding the cat bowl in my back yard. When I chased them off, one of the cubs ended up on my roof, while the others high-tailed over the fence. The cub looked down on me with those adorable bandit eyes and mewled piteously while the momma called frantically from over the fence. I gave up and went back indoors (taking the cat bowl with me) I think I maintain the yard solely for their pleasure.
A dog groomer told me the reason poodles are cut that way is because they were originally bred as retrievers, but their voluminous fur made it hard for them to swim, as it would get water-logged and heavy. But if they cut off too much of the fur, they would be in danger of hypothermia; hence, a balance was struck that allowed the dog to withstand the cold of the water and still be able to swim.

My 6 yr. old German Shepherd still tries to use the old Puppy Eye routine on me sometimes, like when he knows he’s in trouble, doesn’t work though.
