After I retired I rarely wear anything at all. Only when I have to.

any idiot that would ride a motorcycle on the street barefoot, deserves what he gets. I found out the hard way wearing fingerless gloves – believe me a 1/4″×1/4" patch of roadrash on your finger hurts much worse than a 2″×4″ on your arm.

Mack Reynolds wrote a lot of novels set in the near future, where automation had eliminated most jobs. Only people with a very high IQ worked, and were paid astronomical fees, and heavily taxed. Many people made livings off of handicrafts and odd jobs, but people born in the US also had the NIT or Negative Income Tax. Basically NIT replaced welfare.

One result was that it became almost impossible to become a naturalized citizen of the US, permanent resident yes but nothing that would qualify you for the NIT. As unlikely as that future is he seems to be spot on about unemployment. =/ Two weeks ago, the news placed 57% of the people in the US as unemployed or underemployed. In many ways, that’s worse than the Great Depression.

That would be a trailing economic indicator…or, at best, a current indicator.

I try to look for comfortable shoes for everyday wear, working in the yard, or for dress up. Other than that, I don’t need a closet full of shoes. If I did, I would have a garage sale.
