Ryan…. no, they want to make the humans surrender and end up under their control….They’ll have no slaves to harvest, if they cause total, lifeless devastation.
I thought the Lone Ranger movie was great. Everyone else in the theater seemed to be enjoying it also. I don’t see what was the problem. Die-hard Clayton Moore fans?
As a backup plan, they could have sent the entire run of “My Mother the Car”… I didn’t bother to go see The Lone Ranger, because it was being billed as an “Action/Comedy” in the trailers and “The Lone Ranger” was never a comedy and, seriously, Johnny Depp as Tonto? What’s next? A remake of “Song of the South” with Johnny Depp as Uncle Remis???
“The Lone Ranger” was a spectacular success compared to “John Carter,” which holds the distinction of having lost the most money of any film ever made. Second place goes to “Cutthroat Island,” an Anglo-French pirate movie. I’m not sure how far down the list “Lone Ranger” landed.
Related gag: a woman sues Warren Beatty for supposedly making her pregnant. Beatty’s lawyers, of course, demand that she explain where the deed took place. She says, “I spent eight bucks for a ticket to ‘Ishtar’—if that’s not getting screwed by Warren Beatty, I don’t know what is!”
@ Bruno Zeigerts:“That must be a violation of the GenevaConvention!”The Hague Convention. The Geneva Convention regulates the treatment of prisoners of war.
It is the WMD dual collection of Lone Ranger and John Carter. I felt a disturbance in the force of millions of Disney stockholders crying out “Where’s My Dividend?”
Paramount managed to do almost everything wrong. They refused public requests to use the original (Clayton Moore) even in a aiding position (the people cast didn’t even know how to ride a horse), then they sued Clayton because he was “violating their copyright” by posing for pictures in supermarket parking lots (his only means of support) ; that one blew up on them when Moore appealed to Johnny Carson for help. Johnny was a long-time fan of the Lone Ranger and asked the public to let Paramount know what they thought of this. The studio was deluged by angry letters, dropped their suit and apologized to Moore. By that time the combination of their tasteless actions, poor casting reduced greatly the number of people attending the show; the poor script did the rest. One of the worst returns on investment the studio ever had…

I didn’t see the movie, but recently several acquaintances have said they loved “The Lone Ranger.” Anybody have an opinion on this?

Oh come on folks, the Lone Ranger movie wasn’t that bad. At least it had a rocking theme song!

Quick! Send them “The Harlem Globtrotters Visit Gilligan’s Island.”

If that’s how they want to fight, send them “The Rocker”.

Would sending Ishtar be overkill?

Well, I think Plan 9 From Outer Space would be the appropriate movie to send.

The Land of the Lost movie. R.U. Sirius would have to be quarantined.

I thought that “Brokeback Mountain” was the worse film I ever saw.

Your point is valid. I was just trying to stay with the printer thread and avoid the homage to the movie which is kind of what happened anyway.

Good thing it wasn’t “Battlefield Earth.” That would have been just plain cruel.
