Bucky: So, as you see from the free sample I've provided, my fish fizz sodas are production-ready. Rob: Bucky, I'm not giving you money to produce fish soda. Bucky: Why not? Rob: The most immediate reason would be the eyeball floating in this glass of orange roughy crush. Bucky: Yeah, yeah, I thought that could be a gimmick. You know, like the worm in tequila. Satchel: Oh! Like a hook! Bucky: No, I'm pretty sure I got all the hooks out.

While orange roughy is delicious, it is unfortunately not a very sustainable species. It grows slowly, reproduces late in life, and is extremely vulnerable to overfishing. As a deep-sea species, farm raising isn’t a practical option. Also, due to their 100+ year lifespan, they tend to accumulate higher levels of mercury than other commonly consumed fish.

This reminds me of the Sour Toe Cocktail at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City Yukon. A mummified human toe is placed in a beverage of the patron’s choice and the patron is invited to “kiss the toe” – allow the toe to touch his lips as he drinks the drink. A few days ago a patron – an American – quite deliberately swallowed the toe, paid the $500 fine for doing so, and walked out to brag about it. Unfortunately the hotel currently has only one toe available, but they like to rotate them, using a different toe each day. The tradition has been going on since the early 1970s. Donations will be appreciated.
