Do NOT like Holly cussing. It just really ruins my visualization of Holly’s core personality. I sure hope Aaron hasn’t decided to turn her into a non-innocent, sweet, mouse. There needs to be at least ONE character that can resist the personality corruption the world is going through.
I’m wondering how rational she is at the moment?Could heading to the surface be her new plan for committing suicide? As for taking Wally along for a one way ride, given what she’s been through, she could be blaming him for the lost baby (after all, if he hadn’t gotten her pregnant, she wouldn’t have had a baby to lose) or wanting revenge for Wally saving her from her first suicide attempt.Maybe it’s my imagination, but her expression in both panels 3 and 4 scream “crazy lady” to me.
Considering what she went through, I wouldn’t exactly be lining up to stick around Endtown either. Unless they put me in charge of Endtown. Then it would be Replace Judicial System with Thunderdome System Monday!
More surface travel for the delightful duo had been hinted at back when the Krupp Dunerunner drawing was auctioned off. I just didn’t imagine Holly and Wally abandoning Endtown. I just hope that Wally is willing to accept the necessity of carrying a gun. No point being unarmed when the surface is teaming with people who want to kill you or worse.
Hopefully Wally can talk Holly into waiting would be that the best way to leave would be as a forager which would require Holly to be fit for duty and properly trained.
Wally should be very concerned. That is not his Holly talking. He needs to absolutely sure this is what she wants before that undertaking.Check with Mallard before they go. Has he got those dittos working yet. They may not work for Mallard but they might for Wally. They may remember him.
So, Linda’s on the run, topside? Holly wants to drag Wally topside. Maybe Petey can find a reason to join them. Like Mallard wanting to do something undesirable to the brain in a box. And I thought we were going to get Holly’s backstory. Shows what I know.
I wonder if Holly’s journey might have parallels with Flask’s. At one time Philomena must have been happy or somewhat content to be a Topsider. Then she seemed to grow tired and disillusioned and was planning to commit suicide. She was saved from suicide by love (in this case falling in love with a man she rescued) but losing him and her subsequent torture caused her to snap, leading her to wander in darkness until her death and rebirth. I imagine she would be a remarkable force for good in her new life. The things she had gone through would have strengthened her character, making her a formidible force for good.Granted, Flasks life was different than Holly’s. Still there are parallels, inherent goodness in the beginning, torture, a fall into darkness, hopefully Holly will make it through this journey in good shape.
One of the struggles the characters go through is the expectations other people have of them based on their post-End appearances. However she was before her change, now people think of her as a cute perky mouse and she has to deal with how they treat her now as opposed to what she was used to and how she still thinks of herself. She is NOT the person anyone projects her to be, nor is anyone else in Endtown, so we can’t be certain she’s not acting like herself. People say she’s not acting like herself because they want her to be someone she’s not. They should not be surprised she doesn’t meet their expectations.
ok, I heard there were other settlements outside of endtown, but I doubt they’re anywhere near as well defended, not to mention to get to them you’d have to cross over dangerous topsider territory. Not to mention the fact that since the topsiders now have a tracking satellite they would be able to see any mutant communities not protected by that cloaking field thingy.
When you consider what’s going on in Endtown now, it’s not to shabby an idea.Chances are she knows of her stepfather’s connections.Let’s see how far this goes before Wally wakes up, shall we?
“Go where??Live in ruins. Forever dodging the Topsiders.”Holly’s already been Topside with Wally. She has a taste of what to expect, and she knows that Wally is still claustrophobic and looking to escape the colony. The only reason he hasn’t yet is that Holly hasn’t let him. And, the world is a big place – who knows what’s waiting over the horizon…Better to face the fear of the unknown, than the evils of what surrounds you.

And we’re Outta here! But to where?
MacEwanMouse about 11 years ago
Anywhere else that’s habitable. Good choice, when the crazy extremists win the day, it’s already too late. Best to head out early.

Sounds like there’s a lots of surface fun coming!

Gang I think there is something just not right about this. Wally maybe dreaming this and is still asleep.

Manuel Lim has a good point. It just doesn’t sound right, regardless of Holly’s mental state anyway. Could be wrong, but we shall see.

Well! Look who’s doing better! It actually tickles me pink to see her in such better spirits now…even if her plan of action might be questionable.
