this is a great comic. Charlie brown understands that this is his team and he has to work with it, no matter how bad it is. We can’t run away from our problems just because we don’t like what’s happening. Patty is a quitter; she should work to improve the team, not abandon it.
It’s the middle of the game, and she’s already been up to bat 5 times. So some of the Charlie Brown team must have reached base. And if so, why didn’t they score when she homered five times? Did they miss stepping on a base?
They have to be at least in the 8th inning. That’s assuming PP is first in the order, and they strand 3 base-runners most innings. The only runs scored were PP’s.
Apparently it’s more than just incompetence that keeps CB’s team from winning. Maybe they’re cursed…
I was actually expecting a different outcome, where Peppermint Patty’s involvement resulted in the team winning, and CB gets all depressed, because he is then left thinking he’s doing something wrong, believes that maybe he shouldn’t coach anymore, but eventually snaps out of it, and things go back to normal, despite the team maintaining their losing streak.
One of the best strips ever for this feature. The gag about thirty-five unearned runs is just spectacularly over the top, and Charlie Brown’s comment at the end is his best line ever.

Well, at least she could see the handwriting on the wall.

At least it’s not just Charlie Brown who stinks at the game.

If there were no hits, and if she was pitching, how did the other team get so many walks?

Like we didn’t know that would happen. With the exception of Snoopy, they’re all hopeless.

I thought it was just CB. I guess not. Sad.

Poor Charlie Brown!

Both teams got a lot of exercise, Charlie’s team running after the ball, and the other team running the bases.

I often wonder if anyone who plays for the Phillies is realated to anyone on Charlie Brown’s team.

She is a free agent and they can’t afford her.

Too bad she couldn’t play every position like Bugs Bunny did in “Baseball Bugs”.

If she came to bat 5 times and no one else was on base, how many innings have they played so far?
stcrowe about 11 years ago
Thanks. I did not know the origin of that phrase.

That’s how it’s happened in the past, at least.

Now they go back to losing 123 to 0.

She’ll be back. A glutton for punishment, just like Charlie Brown.

The other team had to learn – hit the ball away from the funny looking kid that plays shortstop.
