A film starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Of course, the reference will be lost on most people.

Does that mean there’ll be a rise in co-respondents with cheezie Italian accents? Cool….

It’s hard to form a deep commitment when society condemns that kind of relationship. As the non-gay community becomes more accepting, perhaps we will see more committed relationships. Either because there will be more of them, or because we will be willing to see the ones that have always been there.

Marriage, or any long term relationship is only as good as what both parties are willing to put into it. It requires sacrifice, patience, humor and of course love. I have known many gay and straight relationships that have lasted lifetimes ( with and without benefit of clergy ). I have known others that were doomed from the outset.Gay or straight, marriage isn’t easy. While the novelty lasts, gay marriage and divorce will be sensationalized. Twenty years from now when the Nabuquduriuzhurs and other moribund thinkers are long gone, people will wonder what all the fuss was about

They want to call it marriage so that everyone knows they all the same rights, just like you say they should. It it’s called something else then the bigots and holier-than-thous will not respect the union.

In response to the comic point, it will take time for the LGBTQ folks to adjust to the idea that they CAN get married. Then it will all blend with the hetro rates. Which ColoradoRon, are dropping world wide for a huge number of reasons (like longer life spans) and has nothing to do with gay marriage.

@Nabuquduriuzhur,, @bhinkle – total fiction. The Office of National Statistics gives the number of civil partnerships in the U.K. the five years from December ’05 to December ’10 as 42,778, and the number of dissolutions in that time as 1,007. Rather more stable than heterosexual marriage, it seems.

By the way, I’m not gay.

yes, the one obvious result will be a decrease in population which is not a bad thing. The G/L couples will be adopting – if they want kids – and we’ll have a new classification of kids from a homogeneous family unit . . . just sayin.

I’m straight, and when I was single, all the gay people I met seemed to be single and promiscuous, much like the straight people I met. After I got married, I lost contact with most of the singles I knew because we had less and less in common. Now all the gay people I know are in long-term relationships or are married, much like the straight people I know.

Nah. Homosexual relationships are accepted pretty well in West Hollywood, CA, and I’m told by clients there that the ships passing in the night are cigar boats, not freighters.

The family and divorce courts exist because straight people form such lasting bonds?

Gee, wasn’t a recent Non Sequitur about needing a sense of humor to get into heaven? I agree with Doc Toon. Let the individual church decide if they want to perform the ceremony. Hmmm. Maybe not. Wasn’t that what Loving vs Virginia partly about?

“God and He WILL NOT BE MOCKED for long”Just how long will he be mocked, Holly? Maybe for as long as he creates gays, and then creates hateful bigots like you to torment them.

Since the end times are supposed to have wars and rumors of wars, death, destruction and pestilence, etc., etc., I guess we’ve been living in the end times for , oh, about 2,000 years?

I learned in college that if you have one clean and tidy roommate (me), and one dirty and messy roommate (him), the place will usually be dirty and messy.Same thing will happen with the pollution causing global warming, so it’s kind of a moot point.
