Hanging with an older sibling means a lot to a younger sibling. I remember clearly one time when I was 8 and my older sister was 16. She was a cheerleader in high school. One time she had a Saturday practice, and she actually asked our mom if she could take me with her! That was over 40 years ago, and I still remember how happy that made me. Best. Big. Sister. EVER!
I have two elder brothers, one 5 years older and one 2 years older. My eldest brother and I had nothing in common at all til he got me hooked on a certain show he watched every day. Then we watched it together and it bonded us. He went away to college when he was 17 and I saw little of him after that but I will always remember those days watching that show together. My other brother and I were together a lot since he was only 2 years older, but still if he could be with his friends he didn’t need me. When they weren’t around we had a lot of great times together.
The youngest granddaughter is over four years younger than her next older sibling, and is not a advanced as the other three anyway. It’s always “GO AWAY!! MO-OMM! SHE’S BOTHERING US!”
I too used to hang out in the garage with my Dad. He and I did a lot of projects together. And yes, I am fairly handy with tools due to the experience.
Sometimes spending time with an older sibling gets you into trouble. That’s what happened when my sister who was two years older let me go with her and her friends.
