Anyone know why they started putting the subtitle “Featuring Good ’ol Charlie Brown” in Peanuts Sunday comic strip (as shown this past Sunday? Just curious. And Gocomics doesn’t have the “Classic” in front of it, either.
I think that was the title when the Sunday strip ran so many years ago. It was much larger than the others on that day too. About 1/3 to nearly 1/2 the page..The only story I liked near the end was when CB played against another kid to win back Linus’ marbles.
I’ve enjoyed Peanuts for the better part of the past 40 years. One of the joys is reading the strip here daily and not remembering the conclusion of wonderful story lines such as this.
As a child, I identified with C.B. so much in terms of the pain, rejection, loneliness. Today’s strip has to be one of the saddest I recall…the rain, the emotions, the problems he’s facing…
I had a chance to write to Mr. Schulz in the early 80s, and the two letters he sent back on a Snoopy envelope/stationary are wonderful keepsakes.
Schulz always hated the name “Peanuts” for his strip and in fact he wanted to name it “Good Old Charlie Brown” but his syndicate overruled him because he was just starting out as a cartoonist. And after a while, the name “Peanuts” became so associated with the strip that Schulz couldn’t change it even when he gained the power to do so.
IIRC, Charlie got hit by a car, which allowed his non-participation in the science project to be forgiven or overlooked and for a brief time, he received some sympathy. If I don’t recall correctly, who knows? Stay tuned.

The final panel makes the continuation of the story not good.

Peanuts is a wonderful thing.Mumblix Premium Member about 11 years ago
Uh, he was standing out in the middle of the street so wouldn’t you think a car would be the most obvious thing that hit poor ol’ Charlie Brown?

Notice that kids didn’t have backpacks then. We never did, and this ran when I was in school.

Could it be reality, could be the Little Red Haired Girl, or could it be worse?
Imagine…a Peanuts Cliff hanger??

I feel so sorry for him in the 3rd panel.
I’m sure I’m not the only one.

It’s hard to see with all the rain, but in the third panel, Charlie Brown is crying. Poor guy… I love you, Charlie Brown…
