I remember when Nick at Nite started showing reruns of shows I watched when they originally aired that made me feel old too.

I understand his feelings – I was thrown for a loop when earlier this year I heard Def Leppard on the oldies station that was playing Elvis & Buddy Holly back in the late ’80s.

I just looked it up, the song that Nate mentions is by Billy Ocean. I never heard of it. I have heard of Billy Ocean, in name only , but , fortunately, I cannot name one song that he recorded

Good music is timeless. What freaks us out is becoming old. Frankly it sucks. Time to listen to some Led Zeppelin. lol Happy Sunday all.

Impressive pupil shine you got there Nate! In panel five.

There is a lot of music from back when that the oldies station would never play, so I doubt that in the future they will play Eminem.

I heard a “muzaked” version of Led Zeppelin’s “Tangerine” (from their third album) playing in a Food Lion store once……..sandwiched in there with the other “elevator” music……intriguing.

Actually, the song nate refers to (Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, by Billy Ocean, recorded 1988) is really a song from 1988, which itself is based on a line from Ringo’s song. Nate was not referring to Ringo’s song directly. Interestingly, the original “You’re Sixteen” by the Sherman Brothers, would likely have been heard in 1963, though it was released in 1960.I assume you, sir, were a child of the seventies (when Ringo recorded the song, 1973), not the sixties, as Dad here, or the eighties, as I am :-)

I remember the first time I heard The Clash on the classic rock station. That was a bitter pill to swallow.

I had to go to youtube and find that song because it didn’t ring a bell. Can’t say that I ever heard it, but in 1988 I was listening to KROQ and 91X and I don’t think they played much Billy Ocean.

I’m so old that my idea of a golden oldie is from Vivaldi to Mozart. At least they didn’t need payola to get played.

I may be and old band geek ( I bought a lot of K-Tel records in my time!) but I’m pretty sure Nates song refrence is a Billy Ocean song……..

The first sign of aging: denial.

I was Nate’s age in 1988. They played Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Elvis on the oldies station. Of course, my sisters often turned the kitchen radio to contemporary music at the time. The stations today omit a lot of the songs from that era.

So that means Marty is at least 50.

If that’s true, that means a song from 1998 is now an oldie.

By this logic, next year songs from the year 2000 will be considered oldies. That thought is terrifying.
