Without cable or satellite, you miss 2 Hallmark, 2 History, TLC, Animal planet, and several other good ones. So all you can get over the air is the REAL garbage.
When I first got satellite, in 1994, the documentary channels were showing new and enlightening stuff. Now it’s still showing the same things and quite often more than twice a day..As for kids TV, well……same thing three or four times a day and all of it geared to kids who think that only rich people who attend stage school are to be envied. Oh and belligerent ego heads wearing cloaks and funny costumes, who destroy large parts of their city in the name of justice.

We stopped getting cable a few years ago for that very reason! Why pay for boring, repeats, or “500 channels yet nothing’s on right now”?
