I guess she’s not familiar with Luke 22:19-20. Even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does the Lord’s Supper (which is called by them the sacrament).
My campus church exempted for coffee, tea, and cocoa the frigid Sunday the furnace was out. That year we’d pray each Sunday for churches in some particular group of countries; I was thinking, “Today we especially remember our churches in Antarctica.”

Which is why we don’t have such rules. We just have a rule about fasting one hour before communion, which takes care of the problem. Or it should.

I get irritated when I see people in church drinking coffee and the like during the service. Are they there to worship God or to see a show?
