I don’t get it.

I don’t get it either…

Howie has it right. The toon is saying the only part of the “system” that worked on Christmas Day was the passengers on the plane; thus, when the passengers doze, the “system” is down for a bit.

Hmm, I’ve paid attention, as a passenger, since the mid-60’s when the pilots got lost, to flight crews, mechanicals, and fellow passengers.

fennec, actually, I feel confident that what Howie said and what I expanded upon is what bueller meant. If not, bueller should enlighten us.
