Now all Earl has to do is take that jar of pennies to a grocery store that has a machine that makes loose change into cash.

Another tall tale by Earl.

A guy his age would never pick up a penny off the ground in one second.

I knew someone who would pick up pennies just to prove he could still bend down.

I pick them up, too. But have you considered how much that’s worth? Let’s say I could give you all the money you want — in pennies. All you have to do is pick up one, stand back up straight, bend down for another, etc. Would you bend over a thousand times for $10.00 ? Or ten thousand times for $100.00 ?

There’s something wrong with your math, Earl. If it did work out to $36/hr., I’d pick them up. But they’re not, so I don’t.

The people in my condos throw pennies in the trash. Ten cent returnable bottles too.

In German a penny (Pfennig in the old currency) is supposed to be lucky. I’m not sure it works with the Eurocent though, but I pick them up nonetheless.

See a penny, pick it up. All that day, you’ll have good luck.

When I find a coin, I say out loud so everyone nearby can hear, “wow, I just doubled my standard of living!”.

My husband likes to buy/swap customer rolled pennies from the bank. Not from the mint or bank rolled. He finds dimes occasionally, pennies from other countries and (his favorite) wheat pennies

I’m too lazy to pick up pennies. I’m a penny loafer!

I have developed a real revulsion to cash – ESPECIALLY change. I don’t even carry a wallet anymore. I use my debit card for everything. It works for me, and you don’t have to cope with pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters.

When my grandson was born I made a point of picking up any money I saw on the ground for a year. Dropped it in a jar.

For his first birthday I put the $50 plus in his bank account.

How does all this money get on the ground?? It has to be at least a quarter for me to bend over and then attempt to straighten up. Don’t find too many quarters on the ground.

Just gave Grandpa’s change jar (Large Jack Daniel’s Bottle) full of change to Granddaughter. Lot more than pennies in it. Don’t even want to know what she spends it on. Years to collect, gone in a flash!

I once picked up a $100 bill someone had dropped in a convenience store. That’s $360,000 an hour.

Amazing, but every so often I get Indian-head pennies in my change. I figure some kid got into a coin collection and didn’t know they weren’t the usual pennies. .My father was saving silver coins before the change-over to composites came in 1964 or 1965. My sisters found them in the early 70s and were taking them to school to buy candy — old silver dollars, too. The people in the lunchroom took them, no questions asked..Most of the silver coins in circulation disappeared within about 6 months after the composites came out. I hear that they went into sacks as precious metal for investments.

It takes me more than one second to pick up a penny. I’ll bet it takes Earl longer too.

@CitizenGROG!You need remedial math. Earl’s math works perfectly. He said it only takes him one second to pick up a penny. An hour has 3,600 seconds. So, to pick up 3,600 pennies costs Earl 3,600 seconds OR one hour. 1 sec = 1/3,600 hr, ([$0.01 / 1/3,600 hr = $36.00 / 1 hr.)@Juice- BruceConsider some remedial history and folk literature. I pick them up, they say “In God We Trust” on them.

Most won’t even bend over for a penny, don’t feel it’s worth it.

I always pick up change. I am a firm believe in penny saved, penny earned.

I was once at a but stop and the young guy in front of me dropped some money. I pointed to where it was but he said, “Oh, it’s only 5 pence.” When I pointed out that one day he might be 5p short on the price of a pint, he thought about it then retrieved the coin.

I always pick up a penny when I see it for two reasons. First because of who is on it and second as my grandma used to say “If you don’t have a penny you don’t have a dollar”

If you find a penny heads up, it’s good luck. Put it in someone elses shoe and and doubles the luck. (That’s what I grew up hearing, still do it.)

Where I currently live, the first year I found a pile of pennies that totaled 33cents. Yup, all because they were pennies, that person thought it was worthless, not realizing that was 33cents. They total up.

The most I ever found in the street was £20. I never asked the guys renovating the house if they owned it.

Of course I pick them up. That’s 100% tax free profit. Oh, I forgot that the IRS looks at everything now days. Did I say I pick them up. NO that’s not what I meant to say. I just walk on by. Yeah, that’s it.
