I actually thought it was Olive Oyle and Wimpy until I got the enlarged version and could see and read the dialogue. Love the Dictaphone……….I used to transcribe the old sleeve type back in the 60’s……..also used a plug type switchboard ah…….some good memories some not so good. lol
In Working Daze that would be Dana, and she knew how to use it. Malcolm didn’t provide any samples of Dowser’s strips with Dana. Next week we’ll see Jay.
I recently started a new job within the post office, answering the phone to help people who call 1-866-ASK-USPS. Lately, I’ve frequently been remembering a saying that made the rounds of the business community during the 1960s:
To err is human. To REALLY screw up, you a computer!
Dowser’s writing style was very apropos for the time. It was more natural than Hogar’s by far. Still a bit of snappy patter, sure. But it’s a comic strip.

Olive Oyl was my first thought as well. But Rita dresses much better.

Roy Hobbs? Shades of The Natural?

Roy would do well as Wimpy. “I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
Roy’s personality seems to be intact from this early version to what it is today. Great line, Roy.

I find myself waiting for Popeye and Bluto to appear in the next strip.

That’s nothing. Last week, Ed and Sal looked just slightly like Mutt and Jeff.
