I managed to grow up without becoming an adult.

That’s good. Being an adult isn’t as fun as I thought it would be.

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

Who really want to do that.

What’s the point of adulthood if you can’t act like a child once in a while?

The great thing about being a guy is that growing up is optional.

A long time ago, Catholic children in second grade made their first confessions and communions (it’s usually done at a later age, these days). Priests I knew said the poor kids confessed to violating practically every one of the Ten Commandments, including the one against adultery. And as far as killing, the priests sometimes heard, “I killed a bug.” Kids took God very seriously and wanted to be thorough.

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.
