Mid-Wisconsin has plenty of snow, though north Wisconsin has more. About crawl spaces, you’d sure have heard of them if you lived in Florida. Six feet down, we hit water. One place we lived, the crawl space was underneath the whole house. We found a possum under there once, fattened it up, and ate it.
Thank you Susan. After 5 years of living here in Ontario Canada I’m getting fed up with people who think it snows all the time here. Sure in the northern provinces it does more than here but in Southern Ontario our weather is pretty much the same as for the northern US. We even get hot and humid summers.
A ventilated crawl space is a harbor for mold. My wife and I just got done with removing mold from the crawlspace in our house. Ventilating it makes it accessible to the moisture that mold lives so dearly. We now have all of the walls and the dirt “floor” covered with heavy (10 mil) plastic and all air leaks have been plugged with expandable foam. No air flow equals no inflow of outside moisture.
Here in Calif, we have slab foundations. Where it freezes, a foundation needs to be dug down below the frost line. Many places will have footings dug for a slab and then the house is built above the slab, so there is a cold(real cold) concrete floor under the raised wooden floor. A slab floor in the north is way to cold for a living space.
Many commenters have said that a crawl space is a great place for spiders. Did anyone else notice the spider web hanging off the box in the last panel?
You, of course, put things you don’t use everyday in the middle of your kitchen table for everyone to push onto the floor as they try to eat a meal. Why read this comic if you hate it so much? Go back and repair your bridge!
Once my little nephew came to visit from California and wanted to know what was down there. I told him it was a basement. He had never seen or heard of one before.

What’re the odds of that?

Why can’t they put something like Christmas lights in a closet or shelf instead of “crawl space.” I never heard of “crawl space” before.

Crawl spaces have cool stuff: stones, nails and bits of building debris that are treasures to 5 year olds.

Geez, how’d he get a degree in dentistry when he’s too stupid to get a weather forecast?

Most places down south where I have lived had concrete slab floors, nothing under them.
