The Tea Party looked insane well before this particular debacle, but that’s never been a disqualification in politics.

Picking up from Rrhain yesterday:“It seems you’ve got your terms mixed up, too: “Democracy” is a political system. “Socialism” is an economic system. Are you saying the UK isn’t a democracy? They’re certainly socialist. Their nationalized health service spends half of what we do and they get better results. Same with France.”

Agree with pretty well all of that except the idea that the UK is “certainly socialist”. The last time we had anything approaching a genuinely socialist government was 1974-79. When Labour got in under Blair in 1997 he had already removed Clause IV from the party’s constitution, calling for the common ownership of the means of production distribution and exchange (which is what socialism is). Labour calls itself “democratic socialist” now, which is European code for “hand-wringing centre-left but not really socialist at all”, and believes in a market economy underpinned by a welfare state. The Conservative/Liberal coalition in power at present is more centre-right than centre-left, but isn’t socialist by any definition that equates even vaguely with reality.

The NHS is far from perfect, and is moving more towards an internal market economy rather than the state-run system it has historically had, but the idea of health care being free at the point of consumption is non-negotiable for Brits, and indeed for the citizens of most other developed countries in the world.

Perhaps if the government doles out so much money that it will have that type of effect on the economy if shut down the problem is with the size of government.

I think someone meant aisle, instead of isle. If healthcare reform was going to be easy, it would have taken place a long time ago. Btw, my cable tv stopped working last night, I guess that means I should cancel it.

The next three years, at any rate, should be good for filling judicial vacancies. After that, I don’t have a clue, except I’m expecting Affordable Care to be pretty well entrenched, and by 2018, we’ll see TP protestors with misspelled signs telling the GUVERMINT to keep its PAWS off “MY OBAMACARE!”

I was in 6th grade, 11 years old. Is was a warm day in N.J., and we were out playing softball. The teacher called us all back in, the school had the radio coverage running over the intercoms. The announcement of death had not yet come, but then it did. The principal led the school in the Lord’s Prayer, and the buses came early and took us home.

too bad they didn’t get Reagan, lol to save a country would have been worth advocating the killing of anyone. as we see with Kennedy, we lost the country to the Right and it has never recovered.

I was in junior high in Syracuse. They called us all back to our homerooms, made an announcement over the PA and sent us home early. We all walked or rode our bikes home. Remember those days?.‘Nope, the fatal round was fired by a secret service agent.’.I’d love to see the link to that little bit of slander. And I’m not buying “The Smoking Gun”.

I was in Eighth grade walking from the Junior High School’s main building to the annex when a fellow student told us about the president being shot. Classes were cancelled and we were sent home. My family was a hugely Democrat family and early supporters of Kennedy here in Tennessee. needless to say we were devastated and spent hours in front of the black and white TV watching the coverage. I can still remember seeing Oswald being shot live.

I was 19 and sitting in my mother’s real estate office in Tucson where I worked part time. One of her salesmen called on the phone and told us. A bit later my mother and I were in the car heading east on Speedway when the announcement he had died came over the radio.

Save some of that ire up for the future, because one way or another, since no two Americans can agree on anytthing, things WILL get much worse on all fronts probably, but healh care seems to have a particular cachet for the troglodytes in our government. And we do make it easy to divide and conquer. If you think insurer health care has a high vacuum rating, consider that it could actually be made very much worse, and will, if we don’t get our act together.Check out a propaganda piece .. oops, sorry, I think it’s actually billed as a ‘documentary’, but it offers a brand new kind of abuse of the public in a country which goes around beating its chest and touting ‘freedom’. The premise is total, absolute micromanagement of our lives, from our diets to our exercise and entertainment. I don’t think it’s terribly surprising that there is a crowd out there with enough money to churn out video propaganda for their destructive proposals, nor that their proposals involve this kind of heavy handed government. We have been going in that direction for 4 or 5 decades. Time to put a stop to it.Wouldn’t surprise me if Maher (we have an overpopulation crisis!) and his crowd weren’t in on that. True enough that we’ve had death panels via insurer controlled health care for decades in this country, but this looks like a bid for outright population reduction.Actually, I’m for that. I think that all those people who just know that the rest of us are cluttering the planet up should defenestrate themselves forthwith. That will insure their credibility, and perhaps the rest of us can get on with the business of life. But people who consider their life’s work to be micromanaging the lives of others are anti social at best, and probably touched with a streak of narcissisism or sociopathy. Oh .. I forgot. The APA has removed narcissism from the dx list. Something about it being so pervasive as to preclude its definition as pathology. What a surprise, eh?The film is called ‘Escape Fire’, and it’s very well done. A graphic lesson in caution in what you wish for. We must always be vigilant in terms of exposing ourselves to the effect of unforeseen consequences.

I was in grade eight social studies in Vancouver. Somber music started playing over the PA. The teacher looked up and said “That’s probably because President Kennedy’s been shot.” Shock and amazement all round! They sent us home after lunch.
