Double novocaine works for me. I usually load up on acetomitiphen (Tylenol or store brand of such) before I go in anyway. The package says no more than 8 in a 24 hr period, I never exceed that dosage. 4 before the visit, 4 after.
Novacaine has not been used for decades. The discomfort as it wore off was so bad, I refused it for standard cavity work, just instructed a light touch, high speed, and plenty of water. For deeper work, I did put up with it. Current chemicals work better.

It’s only truly fair if the patients who have to wait for more than 30 minutes are given double novocaine.
