They are Christmas crackers. Although I am Dutch, I have been in the UK several times during Christmas and pulled my end of the cracker. They split with a BANG (not very loud) and there’s a treat inside like a small toy or so.
Thanks for schooling me. I’ve never heard of crackers before. I love learning new and interesting things from you kids. Some day I hope my edumacation will be complete. :-)

I saw this on Dr. Who the other day. Seen it referred to elsewhere; finally understood it. A nice way to keep holidays simply fun.

I had a Basset that absolutely hated fireworks. The 4th of July and New Years were not fun for her.
