Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for January 11, 1991
Transcript:
Nate: Dad, what's the difference between "radius, diameter and circumference?" Dad: Well, let's see...radius is the distance across...no, wait a minute...say you have a circle and you...or would it be a sphere? Ok, let's say you're in the middle of a circle...the diameter is the length...no, hold it. Nate: I'll just go stand in the street...maybe some passing motorist can help me.

I’m sure Nate would be taller than the motorist, with how TALL he is

A radius is a length of a circle from the edge to the center, a diameter is the distance of a circle from one edge to the opposing edge, and a circumference is the length of the edge of the circle.

Circumference is the outside of a circle, basically just the circle itself. Diameter would be like drawing a line through the circle, making the circle have two halves. Radius is like drawing a line through a circle but stopping halfway, basically just half of the diameter.

this is a good comic
Just Peachy! about 2 years ago
I doubt anyone would read this because the comments are not sorted by the newest first. If I can recall, diameter is the measurement across a circle, the radius is half of a diameter and a circumference is the measurement of the whole circle
balony about 2 years ago
Ya, me to, I don’t understand this comic
3ND3RB0Z0 almost 2 years ago
The radius and diameter are straight lines while the circumference is a closed curve. The diameter is twice the radius. The circumference is 2π times the radius of the circle or π times the diameter of the circle.
