Oh my goodness… I started to write about a cat my husband and I had when we were first married… how he would only eat Nine Lives Super Supper, but was so worth the effort of going to multiple stores if needed to find it. But I decided to do a quick check to see if it was still being sold, and came across horror stories. Sad sad sad. Now the dilemma – do I intrude this sadness into a sweet moment, or keep it to myself? Maybe everyone but me already knows about this? Forgive me if I chose wrong, and forgive me for ruining the moment, please. But if you have a cat, investigate the food before you serve it. If we got a cat now, as we have been considering, I would have bought our old favorite food and never thought twice about it. Please, don’t let me have ruined these comments. Just a word to the wise. I hope everyone will go on to tell those fun stories of our beloved furry family members. Happy tails to you!
The scary things with commercial pet foods are one reason my husband and I make our cats’ food ourselves. they eat a semi-raw soft food we make out of chicken (bones included, we grind it up with a meat grinder), liver, eggs, and vitamins. We make 6 weeks’ worth at a time, & keep it in the freezer. they are happy, healthy, & feisty on this food (and oddly enough it really does cut down on kitty poo smell in comparison to store-bought).
After my husband died, I was sitting around and just burst out in tears. His cat came over hopped in my lap and put her paws on my face as if she knew I was unconsolable. That helped me.
Samfran60, my profound sympathies on your loss. I’ve experienced other losses, and know the shock and despair, but the thought of losing my husband just scares me something terrible. God bless and keep you.
Lynnskay, Terri, Maizing, zippycats, listmom, and Varnes, thanks for being supportive. I didn’t like bumming out such a sweet strip, but once I stumbled onto that info, I couldn’t risk someone’s pet’s life by not sharing it. Zippycats, that’s the site I saw. Now, it could be a hoax – anything’s possible on the nets – but Maizing heard some corroboration on the news. Thanks, Lynnskay, you made me feel better about this. It is sad, and disgusting.
Read up on Vitamin D and Vitamin K, both are bad for cats and Vitamin K or the synthetic version is in most products. Vitamin D was in some cat treats our cat showed to much affection for. We switched but too late.
