I would have thought Elly would caution Mike about picking up the glass with his bare hands.
This brings to mind how Elijah Wood, during production of “The Lord of the Rings,” stepped on some broken glass in shallow water, and it cut his foot, which was essentially bare except for his hobbit-foot appliances, deeply enough that it kept him out of production for several weeks while he healed.
