John has to ‘pay’ for being truthful. Ellie, enough is enough. Put some in the freezer and spread it out over the next three months then you won’t have ‘rebellion’ in the ranks !
I agree that she ought to have frozen some of the turkey, we still have ours in the freezer because I was sick over the holidays so I don’t know when we’ll have it. But for John to criticize her and call her names like leftover queen is hitting below the belt because those leftovers save him the money of having to buy more meals. He’s one man who ought to learn to keep his yap shut.
Since the past several days of strips have all occurred on January 1st, there’s no certainty it’s the 8th on that timeline.
I made the mistake of freezing my Thanksgiving leftovers all in one bag, which meant I had to thaw the frozen turkey block all at once, which, of course, ultimately resulted in some of it being tossed.
The irony is, probably back when this strip originally ran, turkey was not as available as it is now. It was more of a holiday treat. For many of us, leftover turkey with some fresh mashed potatoes and gravy was a wonderful treat because we only had turkey once or twice a year.-I was a volunteer on a crisis switchboard years ago and we tried to help homeless vets.Their stories reminded me of things my grandmother and mother had told me about the Depression. It is never funny to me to hear kids or adults complaining about eating leftovers when I think of people who sneak into dumpsters for food. Yes, perspective is needed. -A husband during the Depression who called his wife a ‘leftover Queen’ WAS making a complement. These days, not so much.

At least Ralphie Parker was somewhat thinking positive before his neighbors’ dog devoured his family’s turkey.

Feel lucky he didn’t buy a 50# turkey instead of a 25#.

Or maybe Mike should go without dinner a few nights like too many others in this world do. Maybe then he would gt some perspective.

And having your spouse think of you as a thrifty and creative home maker, “leftover queen”, is a bad thing?

In all the years that I’ve had Thanksgiving, there has never been enough leftovers to even make a turkey sandwich the next day.
People must be buying enormous birds with all this “turkey again?” whining I hear.
Next year – buy a smaller bird!
