My grandfather, coming from " the old country " never liked American beers – too watery, and tasteless for him. He found Ballentine Ale suited his Northern Irish taste. Consequently, I was " brought up in the faith " and have always preferred ales, porter and stout over lager. My grandmother, was a complete teetotaler, but always kept a bottle of Ballentine Ale in the fridge for me. I guess that’s why I have such fond memories of the stuff.

American beers may have been wimpy at one time or another, but not any more, not since the rise of the ‘microbreweries.’ in this country and especially in this area. Try a Ninkasi IPA, a Fort George Lager, or a Laurelwood Brewing Free Range Red Ale, and THEN try telling me US brews are weak.

The only thing that could’ve made today’s episode worse would’ve been Guitar Bob accompanying Andy. (Then again, there could’ve been a trivia quiz question about how much water was in the bucket, and how much beer was in Andy……….)

@Number SixI have an annual tradition of re-reading certain Christmas books. For one, “Poirot’s Christmas”, and just the other day “Rumpole’s Christmas.” (If Dickens had known about She Who Must Be Obeyed, he would’ve shoe-horned her in as the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, the scariest and meanest of them all………)

Gweedo (Bring back Dry) Murray said, 5 days agoforgot to mention that there stuff. -Went to two shows here in Colo. Almost went to one in Sacramento before that in the mid ‘70s, but no one else wanted to go and ya gotta have a ’crew’ when ya go to a big Rock show at a crowded venue. -I might consider doing a mod-ified Goat mod thing as a volunteer experiment. It would be an interesting talk group, fore shore. I finished going through two hours of George Carlin collected videos. He’s not just comedy, but his “lectures” even smack of sound logic. I played some Lisa Lampanelli and Lewis Black before that. I heard a lot of swearing, but the material had no meat. -If you wanted to share other stuff, we would be willing to listen. You’re not building bombs, are you ? Your cousin is being unnecessarily cruel considering what you do in the service of others. -Heather’s mom is here from Michigan, and she is having Joe and I over later to visit and some apple pah. I’m sure Linda and bevie get a kick out of “pah” !-Thanx !________________________________________________Sorry to hear you had nobody to go with to see the show you were about to attend. Even if you went on your own you would still probably enjoy yourself but maybe not as much without friends.-Do you still watch Steven Wright do stand up? You sent me a video of him before and I enjoyed it.-Nahhhh… I’m not building bombs,-Don’t worry, I’ll share stuff soon!-He’s not being cruel. It’s all in fun. I tease him in the same way. I made the chicken noises at him, remember? Haha. -I’m going to donate my 7th pint on 9th January. They have no appointments left according to the site so I’m going to have to ‘walk in’ again without an appointment. This time, I had to register with the site because it’s all changed. Now I have access to my records.-I hope very much you and the rest of your family had a wonderful Christmas! I also hope Heather and her Mum had a lovely time together too.-Happy “Finally” Friday.

@NyukNyuk2000For some reason I never really liked Sherlock Holmes all that much. I never read more than a few of his short stories. But I love Brother Cadfael (the medieval monk detective), Gordianus the Finder (ancient Roman detective), and Nicholas Bracewell (Elizabethan theatre detective). Plus Rumpole, of course. But Poirot’s been my favorite detective since I was in grade school.

@my fellow beer drinkersAll of my favorite beers these days come from Boulevard Brewing of Kansas City. Patriotic hometown pride aside, they’re excellent. (Probably even beviek has tried a few!) But now they’ve been sold off to a company in Belgium and we’re all pessimistic at the prospect of changes for the worse, not the better.
