Just think Jack Benny, George Burns, or Bob Hope on talk shows after so many years in show biz. You just knew that what they were GOING to say would be funny, so you anticipated the laugh. Walt’s been around so long, it’s the same thing!
Certainly, I’ve heard of a tall tale and I have to say that I find it entertaining, if not believable. I’m not one of those who wants to go back to “Marmaduke in GA” or talking to plants. I’m enjoying this.
On the other hand, I don’t yet see how any of this answers the question about the “secret of longevity” that the woman asked.
My channel-surfing wife told me one night she spotted something with Abraham Lincoln on a particular channel. I had already seen ABVH in the listings and kept on with whatever I was doing instead.
I like your meteorite theory. It’s at least as believable as Walt’s story. There has to be something in the air at GA that promotes longevity. The “secrets” are generally entertaining whenever people give them.

Dr. Livingstone (I presume) died in 1873. I know Walt is old, but even he is not that old.

The Cheyenne Old Fashioned Melodrama has a waitress named Helen Hunt who finds a wallet every night – or so the MCs say every night.
