Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for March 19, 1995
Transcript:
Dad: NATE! Didn't I ask you to clean out the garage? Nate: Okay, okay... Keep your shirt on. Dad: Hey! I don't need to hear that attitude! Did I ask for attitude? Dad: I never spoke to your grandpa like that when I was your age! I was taught to be RESPECTFUL! Dad: And you what, Nate? Being respectful means knowing when to keep your mouth shut! Dad: I was taught that if I didn't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all! Dad: I never would have DREAMED of talking back to an adult! ANY adult! Dad: When I was your age, I only spoke when I had something to say! Nate: ... And now he's making up for lost time.

Scary thing is, Nate’s probably right in the end. Though you shouldn’t be rude to adults, even if they seem to deserve it.

If Nate’s dad says he was taught to be respectful and was always polite, he is basically said that he failed to teach Nate any of those skills. Nate gets the last laugh
