Wow. Even the viper, dog, rooster and monkey drown with you.

“Is that all”….WHY this odd collection of animals ? Was each supposed to do something specific or had some odd purpose? I would suspect everything in the bag would be looking to escape the bag as a prerequisite.

They had monkeys in Rome?

The punishment was for parracide. They threw you in the Tiber river and it took a loooong time for the bag to finally sink on its way to the ocean. In the meantime all hell was breaking out in that bag. A horrible way to die and it definitely was a deterrent.

Obviously the catalyst for founding the SPCA. What kind of monster would torture 4 animals that way?

Roman punishments were rough indeed, Crucifixion, of course, tops the list, along with flogging with one of the most heinous whips ever invented. It’s interesting to note, however, that citizens of Rome could not be crucified (though they could be beheaded), nor could any other punishment be visited upon them until they had been tried and convicted.

They featured a task about bird singing competitions on Amazing Race. You had to make the bird sing to get your next clue.

Someone taught my daughter’s parakeet to say“Here, kitty kitty!}”
