I was in a hospital waiting room once, and a woman and her two daughters were sitting across from me. Texting to each other. The only time the mother spoke was when her kids didn’t reply quickly enough. I’m too old for this nonsense.
I’d never tolerate anyone messaging me while in the same location. But I do find my smartphone and iPad really useful, in private life as well as in teaching. I allow my students to ask me questions via Facebook and I appreciate being able to keep up with my family and my friends, who are a 14-hour flight away.
The few times I have texted a friend sitting next to me or a few rows away? At a football game (Grey Cup) and a rock concert. – Its a wonder either of us weren’t deaf afterwards..

And if all in the same room would still be doing the same thing.

“I’m reading a text I just got from Billy about a text he sent Dana telling her about John’s text about a text I sent him.”
