That’s hard to back, since he didn’t prove he could beat her. Schulz took the strip a different way than most readers may have suspected- or other writers might have taken it. It’s natural to think that Lucy is riding for a fall and someone she leasts suspects will beat her. This was an unusual choice, and shows that Schulz was a canny writer.
