I love animals too (at least the ones who don’t try chewing me to bits), but we have two cats and I’ve had to pick up enough dead birds in our yard to know that nature isn’t a milk & cookies kingdom. Can’t get mad at the cats for being true to what they are but I’ve got nothing against the birds who were harming nobody when they met their ends either. Nature, as with life itself, is not fair.
The capacity for relationships with animals is one of those things that makes us, well, human beings. What’s sad is sometimes having to rely on animals for unconditional love. That says something about human beings as well.
Au contraire. Life and nature actually are fair. The problem is the skewed human view point where everyone insists on being the winner. For example, I have no problem with animals feasting on my remains. By the same token, until I’m dead, i don’t plan on being a cooperative meal. :-)
Great post @GuiltyBystander, but I’d personally be hypocritical if I complained about cats killing smaller animals when we humans do the same thing. The difference is I get other people to do the killing for me.
Other than that, this particular comic is so true. Animals do tend to be less judgmental than humans, especially cats and dogs.
Our kitty eats what she kills. The birds are marked by little piles of feathers, beaks, and feet. She has killed rabbits, and can only eat half – the front half. She gives the back half to us, with all the guts taken out. It smells good freshly killed. I should at least learn how to skin it and wrap it for the freezer to give to her a few week later.
After i graduated from highschool, Mom advised that if i don’t have time to prepare a proper tunafish spread, just mix 1 part sandwich spread to 2 parts canned tuna., and i never have time..

I wouldn’t mind a couple of tuna fish sammidges myself, Calvin! Tho’ they’d probably be better if Mom made ’em.

Tuna fish sandwich might save you from getting pounced on Calvin.

Getting under your nerves occasionally is part of the trade-off. Straight -up tuna fish? No mayo, chopped celery, and chopped onions?

Yes animals are undemanding. As long as you feed them, clean them and pay attention to them.

Isn’t this how it all started? With a tuna-fish sandwich?

That’s terrible. In fact, it’s so bad I’ll have to make a point to remember it so I can use it in the future. Often.

Agreed, Calvin!
Love the panel where Hobbes is crying. That’s sweet.

Domestic animals often kill out of boredom. ( Just like their owners) “Wild” animals , kill for survival (food)

I know a dog that kills birds. I saw him run one down and snatch it out of the air.
