TS 1: "Our PT ran out of gas, and when we were exiting it, we both tripped over each other and broke the antennas off our helmets! Then “genius” over here locked the keys in with our zero guns."TS 2: “If you don’t help us get back to civilization, we’re libel to kill ourselves by accident!”Wally: “You don’t make it easier for a guy, do you?”
Unarmed… not with “the others”… need mutant help? No wonder the TSers ran these guy out. They’re about as useful as a pitcher of warm spit. Not really “re-conquering the world” material.
Not all Topsiders agree with the main “genocide is too good for the mutants” concept. Some are “soft on the mutant issue”. And those “mutant lovers” are likely to be ostracized from the colony if they become too obvious about it, or if they come into conflict with the more rabid leaders. Stranding the unwanted ones in a hostile environment is like handing them a slow death sentence.
Did anyone else notice they are not wearing the antennae ear pieces like the others. It would appear not all the Topsiders are set to kill every thing they come across. Remember Wally did not start out as a soldier…he was an engineer. With APEX every one eventually carries a gun…this may be some who do not want that.Or this may be a very good attempt at “Confuse the Cat”Made popular by Monty Python. What if they are already mutated and have been hiding under those suits not knowing where to go or what to do?Flask could still wear one so could there be others?Food for thought…..or just kill them all and live with the memories.
Interesting development. If ANYONE might be inclined to at least listen to their story, it’s Wally. But I also expect the “no longer quite as much of a humanitarian as before” Holly to pop out any moment and demand he immediatly execute them. What’s a cat to do? ;-)
It is reasonable to assume that not all topsiders are evil. But then Aaron is the king of plot twists. Who knows what evil lurks in their hearts. Only the Aaron knows.
I like my romantic couple possibility the best. It seems to make the most sense that they abandoned the topsider group. Maybe hearing about the annilation of the town was the last straw. It wouldn’t make much sense to leave a squad there to kill any anthros who happen to come by. Isn’t that what the satellite is for, to track mutants? Another thing is the likely possibility that anyone other than Wally might decide to just kill them off like others here have suggested. They would be sitting ducks. If that were true, I think they would be a little more anxious about the possibility of being killed than to just sit and play cards. Yet if that were true, it could be why the antennae were removed, to keep their screams from flooding the airwaves.
BTW, is Holly alright?
I’m wondering another thing, How many did survive the war worldwide and what is the percentage of topsiders to mutants now?
The one thing in a society like Topsiders would be the oneness of everything. Remove the individual from the equation. To think of themselves as Mankind not just human beings. The suits are probably the best working design they have except for the one design flaw Flask pointed out. I believe all the suits have that one weakness but it is not known to everyone……just the elite few. This way the masses are kept in control. I would refer back to their statements. They did not say they were waiting for any one. They said “We have been here waiting for you.” This to me indicates they were waiting for Wally himself not just any mutant who walks up. There could be underground movement where mutants and Topsiders are trying to work it out. Not all the mysteries or connections of Endtown have been revealed by the author.I still think something is different. They could be mutants wearing Topsider gear waiting on Wally to show up for the “mission” he was given by Prof Mallard. Flask had maintained her figure and stature. Other mutants may have stayed the same size like her. Or these are mutant sympathizers no longer following the Topsider dogma. Like WWII there were Germans in NAZI Germany who were against Hitler and his thugs and many tried to do things about it but they were small in number but did do what they could but when you are a few against millions it is very hard and dangerous to come out openly.
I’m guessing that this couple are alone, either a pair of renegades who escaped the Topsider regime and removed their radio antennas to make themselves harder to track or rejects being punished for something by having their antennas removed and being cast out into the wasteland.Either way, they’re stuck in a world they don’t understand and need help. The biosuits they are currently relying on will need some kind of tech support, at the very least fresh nutrients for the human waste reprocessing equipment. Since they can’t get biosuit support, they will need to mutate and ditch the suits but to do that they need a guide who can show them how to obtain food and water and how to avoid Topsider patrols. They need someone like Wally.

“We’ve been waiting here for you.” For some mutant, or for Wally specifically?

Could it be a schism in the topsider ranks? Some finally questioning the morality of harvesting mutants/exterminating them?

TSers needing help from an anthro? The only time they needed that was helping themselves to their brains!
Wally to TSers: you’ve got just four panels to explain what’s going on or AN will erase you!

Maybe these two are looking to mutate and get it over with…

I’m confused. Does anybody have an updated scorecard? I think mine exploded after the dittos divided 1 over 0.

Kudos to Wally. He’s thinking instead of just reacting. Maybe the rats DID beat some sense into him.

A little help here. Didn’t someone go topside not too long ago? Perhaps they are hiding in the suits to blend in with actual TS.
